What is Advent?

Advent comes from a Latin word that means “arrival.” For centuries, Christians have observed Advent as a season of preparation and anticipation. It begins four Sundays before Christmas and invites us to slow down, refocus, and prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus.

Each week of Advent highlights a different theme tied to Jesus’ arrival: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. During this season, we wait with longing and expectation, preparing our hearts and homes not just for a holiday, but for the Savior who came—and who is coming again.

Why Participate in Advent?

The Christmas season is often the busiest—and most stressful—time of the year. With so many distractions, it’s easy to lose sight of what Christmas is truly about. Practicing Advent, whether individually or as a family, helps us silence the noise of our culture and intentionally center our lives on Jesus.

When we devote several weeks to reflecting on His coming, Christmas becomes richer, deeper, and far more meaningful.

How Do We Practice Advent at Stonehill?

There are many meaningful ways to observe Advent. At Stonehill, we’ve chosen to walk through the same Advent study together so we can share a united experience, speak a common language, and prepare our hearts collectively for the arrival of Jesus.

This year, we are encouraging everyone to use a specific curriculum from Daily Grace Co. The theme is the same across all versions, and there are four options available: men’s, women’s, teens, and families. Digital versions are also available for adults and teens if you prefer to participate on your phone or computer. Each study includes Daily Scripture readings, a short devotional, prayer prompts, and reflection questions.

The family version also includes weekly activities and crafts designed to help kids engage with the theme in a fun and meaningful way.

You’re invited to purchase the study that fits you or your family best using the links below.
